Margaret
Scott Park is located on the former site of Margaret
Scott School in Winnipeg?s North End. The design
of the park was undertaken as part of the overall
Building Communities Initiative program of the Province
of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg.
Through
the community consultation process Margaret Scott
Park was chosen by the community as a key recreational
node for development. The park includes active recreation
with a playground, skate park and softball field
as well as passive recreation with parks and a community
garden. All elements of the design were developed
through community involvement at the concept and
preliminary design stages.
McGowan
Russell Group prepared preliminary plans and estimates
to present to the community as a framework for design
development of the park. The local school brought
together a group of students to design the skate
park at a workshop facilitated by MRG. The plans
that were developed in the workshop were directly
translated into the detailed design of the site.
The
park serves as a recreational hub for neighbourhood
residents of all ages.
